Inside a 2-Plate Ceiling Rose

A 2-plate ceiling rose has two groups of terminals: one for the live side and one for the neutral side. The supply mains does not loop through.

Terminal Layout

Ceiling Rose (2-plate)Plate 1 (Live)L in from JBL to switchL return from switchPlate 2 (Neutral)N in from JBN to pendant

What Goes Where

Plate 1 (live):

  • Brown (L) from the feed cable
  • Brown from the switch cable (switch live going out)
  • Blue, sleeved brown, from the switch cable (switch return coming back)
  • Brown from pendant flex (receives live only when switch is on)

Plate 2 (neutral):

  • Blue (N) from the feed cable
  • Blue from pendant flex

Difference From 3-Plate

In a 2-plate rose, the live supply and switch live share the same terminal plate. You must be careful to identify which is which — all three brown/sleeved conductors at Plate 1 are live at different times.

Earth

Earth conductors from all cables connect to the rose earthing terminal (or a separate earth block if the rose doesn't have one). The pendant earth goes to the fitting.
