Inside a modern 3-plate ceiling rose
A 3-plate ceiling rose is the standard modern arrangement. It has four terminal blocks: L (live/line), N (neutral), E (earth/CPC), and Sw (switched live). Four cables connect: • Loop-in: mains supply from the consumer unit (or previous rose) • Loop-out: mains continuing to the next rose on the circuit • Switch wire: carries permanent live down to the switch; receives switched live back • Pendant: carries switched live and neutral to the lamp flex Connect them in order: loop-in, loop-out, switch wire, pendant.
Step 1 of 12
Connect the live (brown) from the loop-in cable to the L terminal.
