Through-joint: 3-terminal junction box

A 3-terminal junction box has three terminal blocks: L (live, also called line in BS 7671), N (neutral), and E (earth — the Circuit Protective Conductor, or CPC). When joining two cables, each conductor connects to its matching terminal. Both cable ends share the same terminal blocks. Connect the incoming cable first, then the outgoing cable.
